Kinross Chirano is a west situated Ghana gold mine and it is an innovation pioneer, what’s the secret behind that? It combines FMX and Volvo trucks with A40 tumbrils for its underground operations.
Chirano mine is more precisely implanted four hours away from Kumasi, its activity began in 2005 and it belongs to Canada’s Kinross Gold Corporation since 2010. The firm has intensified its production and has opened new open air mines and two underground ones. About 250.000 ounces were extracted every year, in March 2015 Chirano has celebrated its two millionth ounce extraction.
Because of the price fluctuation of raw material and due to the world economic condition, Canada’s Kinross Gold Corporation is facing several challenges to maintain its business profitability, the company has set a mission within Chirano mine to minimize the production costs, for this it 80 Volvo machines with A40 tipping tumbrils, tractor shovels along with Volvo FMX 8x4 and 10x4 trucks.
The mine is a pioneer at combining two Volvo tipping tumbrils and FMX for underground missions. The competitive machine costs, the interesting price of spare parts and a satisfying service on the site are the assets of this distinguished team provided by SMT; the official distributor of Volvo in west Central Africa.
Among the characteristics of these machines we mention the evolution of FMX trucks capacity, the fuel’s low consumption of the machines thanks to the Volvo’s powerful engine, the maneuverability of machines in an exiguous space and the reduced liquid use (oil, lubricants, and other cooling liquids) on tumbrils.
