Faurecia the equipment manufacturer launches into hydrogen 2017-05-17
Till now, hydrogen vehicles are practically non-existent on the roads. But the technology is developing gradually; today we see the arrival of a heavy industrialist: Faurecia.
Faurecia, a major French manufacturer specialized in automotive and industrial engineering just made a big announcement: the development of hydrogen-related technologies. The fuel still not widespread because of the nonexistence of pumps, high vehicle prices and complicated storage elements to be developed.
Precisely, Faurecia has just signed an agreement with Stelia Aerospace, an Airbus subsidiary, for the hydrogen tank design. Hydrogen is a complicated fuel to store (it has to be at very high pressure). The tanks therefore require a particular technology and Faurecia intends to become a "leader" in fuel cell technology.
This is good news for the development of this type of engine for vehicles, especially as Faurecia also joined the research cluster "MAI Carbon" in Germany for the development of composite parts for the automobile industry.
Major automotive groups and research units make up this cluster which aims to lower the costs of composite parts for the automobile, such as carbon fiber.
Interesting fact: Faurecia estimates that "five million vehicles equipped with fuel cells could be in production" as early as 2035. This is a big market for equipment manufacturers.
